Michael Robinson was the 49ers 4th round pick this year... He was a QB in college and is converting to a RB in the NFL, which is strange in its own right... Even stranger is the fact that this guy runs over people! Last week against the Eagles, he had 2 TD runs, each of which resulted in the attempted tackler being injured and taken out of the game... But this is not the first time for this... Here's a YouTube clip of Michael Robinson in college, destroying a safety! If Frank Gore keeps fumbling, this guy could be the man, and if he gets that spot, he won't be giving it back!

Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man!
Sweet! Robert Downey Jr. has agreed to take on the role of Tony Stark in the Iron Man movie coming out in 2008... He'll definitely know how to play an alcoholic (which Tony Stark is)... Thank god its not Tom Cruise... Jon Favreau is directing, which is a hit-and-miss proposition, but now I can see why the Marvel head was so excited about this one...

Giant Crystal-Filled Cave Discovered in California
Wow... This is pretty awesome... In the middle of Sequoia Forest in California, which is pretty well travelled, amateur scientists found a huge new cave... Just goes to show, there's tons of stuff still to be discovered...

ABC News: Top 20 'Whitest' and 'Blackest' Names
20/20 did a study... They sent resumes to employers... They basically sent 2 of each resume, with the same experience, same education, etc, but with one real difference... One had a "white" name and one had a "black" name... And you know what? The ones with white names got picked a lot more often...

The eerie Weblogs of young murderers
In this new world, where everything is on the Internet, there's a lot more of a virtual paper trail then there used to be... So, when we see people going on murder sprees or killing people these days, they leave more behind about who they were and why they did what they did... Interesting read...

Malcolm Gladwell (author of some pretty good-selling books himself) gushes all over Michael Lewis' new book, called The Blind Side... For those of you who don't know, Michael Lewis wrote Moneyball, one of the best baseball business books ever... If this new one's as good as it sounds, I can't wait!

SquidSoap - Training Tomorrow's Great Hand Washers
Now this is an ingenious idea... At its core, this is just softsoap... But, where it's really smart is that, when you push the dispenser, it puts an inkspot on your hand, that doesnt wash off for 15-20 seconds... So, it trains kids how long to wash their hands... Smart guys...

French and German remakes of the BBC's Office
I love the show The Office... I loved the British version and I love the US version... What I didnt know was that there are also French and German versions... Who knew? This article discusses why they chose to have their own versions too, and how each shows its country's own national identity and attitude towards work...
This is a good summary: "In the British version, nobody is working, nobody has a happy relationship, everyone looks terrible, and everybody is depressed. In the French version, nobody is working but even the idiots look good, and everybody seems possessed of an intriguing private life. In the German version, actual work is visibly being done, most of the staff is coupled up, and the workers never stop eating and drinking—treating the office like a kitchen with desks." And the American version? Well, I think we all know how that one works...

A lot of people have fetishes... Sometimes its the foot, sometimes its corsets, or whatever kind of stuff cathes their fancy... Usually, I can see how and why they'd be into it (even if I couldnt ever imagine enjoying it myself)... But this is a weird one... Emmitt Dancing with the Stars
This is kind of sad... Emmitt Smith, one of the greatest NFL running backs ever (even though I hate the Cowboys and always will, I can admit that), is on Dancing with the Starts (DwtS for its fans)... And he was pretty good... But it doesnt matter, because NFL players should never ever be caught doing anything like this... Jerry Rice did it year 1, now Emmitt year 2... Can it at least be a kicker next time? Maybe Martin Gramatica or something?

Wikipedia vs. Encyclopedia Britannica
The founder of Wikipedia debates with the head of Encyclopedia Britannica... Worlds collide, but its really interesting reading, debating the merits of open-source to closed when it comes to content (and content that is supposed to be authoritative)... To me, it really comes down to the idea that knowledge is always changing, and to be up-to-date, the storage of that data must constantly evolve to keep up...

Big Apple News (the company not the city)...
Normally, I'm not much of an Apple guy... But I'm being swayed... What is this little box you see in this picture? Why, it's the future, nice to meet you... This box is the missing link... We all have iPods... Soon we'll all have video-enabled iPods... Now there's the ability to download movies...
But here's the question... Do I really want to pay $15 for a movie I can only watch on a 2.5 inch screen? Of course not... I paid for that movie, I should be able to watch it anywhere! Well, that's what this box is... It's called iTV and will be coming out early next year... It lets you wirelessly hook up your iPod to your TV and watch all your downloaded movies, TV shows, Video Podcasts, etc on TV... Now all we need is an easy way to rip DVDs onto our iPods and we'll be set! Especially with a new iPod available in 80GB size for $349...

In Remembrance of 9/11
In remembrance of 9/11, I will not be posting today. Today is not a day for humor, but a day to remember what happened. It is also a day to think about what has happened since, and what we want to happen in the future. We cannot let other people shape our country and our future for us, we need to take control and steer things back in the right direction. If you want to read commentary on the news, etc today, I highly recommend going over to Crooks and Liars.

This is horrible! The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin killed by Stingray!
Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, was killed by a Stingray near the Great Barrier Reef in Australia... Apparently it stung him right in the chest, which is one of the only areas where it is fatal (Stingrays only really attack if stepped on or something like that anyways)... Let's have a moment of silence for him, as he seemed to be a really good guy and leaves a couple small kids and a wife behind...
